The first electric bass was by Paul Tutmarc in 1935 when he made and marketed the Serenade 736 bass fiddle . Leo and George made the first commercialy popular electric bass but it was 16 years after the very first fretted electric bass was made

Paul tutmark invented the electric bass in 1936 I think. The Tutmark Audiovox was the 1st electric bass. I think Dave. However fender did make history with it :-)

I have 7 bass guitars in my collection. I have a fretless jazz and I love it! I have to say I am an Ibanez man tho. Something about the way it feels on me and my hand to the neck. With that all being said...I MUST HAVE MUSICMAN! I have loved those things for years and I will own one soon! Cheers!

hey Dave,   they did bring back the string through the back (AKA String-thru-body) style in 1996. For a few years it ran standard on the standard US p bass after that they started reserving it for the deluxe US p basses.  I actually got a 1996 standard US p bass with the  string thru body design and to this day it is still the best sounding bass I have ever heard period.
