July 19 -- At the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, Donald Trump formally sealed the GOP presidential nomination. Trump’s children were on the floor as New York cast the votes that put him over the 1,237 delegates need to clinch the nomination. In a brief video address shown at the convention, the nominee said, “this is amovement, but we have to go all the way.” Trump's daughter Tiffany and son Donald Jr. spoke, as did former rivals for the nomination Ben Carson and Chris Christie. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan made an impassioned plea for party unity “at this crucial moment when unity is everything.”
