CLIP DESCRIPTION:
The sight of Grant (Edward Herrmann) triggers the return of Joanna's (Goldie Hawn) memory.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
This screwball comedy casts real-life couple Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn in a film that finds the latter returning to her roots in a role reminiscent of Private Benjamin (1980). Hawn stars as Joanna Stayton, a snooty heiress who summons carpenter Dean Proffitt (Russell) to her lavish yacht, where she wants an expanded closet constructed that will house her valuable wardrobe. When Dean fails to build the closet out of cedar, Joanna haughtily dismisses him without payment. Later, Joanna falls overboard and is struck by another boat, causing amnesia. Seeing her story on the news, Dean constructs an elaborate scheme to pretend that Joanna is his wife, Annie. Soon, the former rich snob is cleaning Dean's home and babysitting his four rambunctious boys. Although at first she's a disaster, "Annie" grows into her role and begins to love being a mom and middle-class wife. When her real husband, Grant (Edward Herrmann), comes looking for her, however, her memory is jogged, and she must decide between a life of privileged ease and a life of happy housework. Overboard was the feature-film debut of writer Leslie Dixon, the granddaughter of famed photographer Dorothea Lange.

Her butler said something VERY wise, about how some people like her have been given the rare opportunity to view life from an entirely different perspective, but how she chooses to live after the experience is entirely up to her. Very meaningful.

What makes this movie even better is that Kurt and Goldie have been together for a bazillion years, no paper needed, and both have said that this was one of their favorite movies to make..., not only with each other, but just in general. I love this movie, it's in my movie folder as well under comedies.

One of my favorite scenes of ANY movie! Goldie is SUCH a powerhouse actress! People forget the level of talent needed to make comedy work... and the serious chops needed to deliver such believable drama like Goldie does here, almost effortlessly! What a talent!

"Say something." That line right there you can hear the pain in her voice

You can criticize this movie all you want, but that is a heart wrenching scene. Goldie played it brilliantly.

Let's be honest. Dean would have never been able to build that golf course without her.

Grant only says one word: Switzerland. Where she keeps the money. And Dean only says one word: Annie. The woman he fell in love with. Powerful scene.

This movie is one of the rare examples of 2 wrongs do make a right. They both treated the other really badly and both gave the other genuine happiness even without money.

Ok, but can we take some time to appreciate Goldie's drama acting skills? She took us on a rollercoaster ride of emotions starting from 1:22 and this video doesn't include the most heart-breaking scene as the boys run after the limousine and she cries as she hears them screaming "mom." I feel like the world doesn't appreciate her as a dramatic actress enough. NO ONE could've played this role the way she did and demonstrate the same masterful blend of comedy and drama.

Dean did trick her. But at the same time he broke her. She went from a very snobby person to a very down to earth person. She was unlikable. The part where she apologizes to her butler was a very nice scene. I don't know if anyone else agrees. It's very nice to see people realize what type of person they were and say "I was wrong. Please forgive me."

I love that she didn’t slap him in the face because that is such an obvious thing to see in a movie moment like this. Her asking him to say something and then telling him her name isn’t Annie was much more powerful.

She went from going hi grant to remembering grant to realizing that she was made out to be a fool! But at the same time she knew she still loved the man that adducted her 🤣❤️ so glad they got together in the end! ❤️

This was really a powerful scene. It gets buried under all of the comedy. Goodie Hawn is such a great actress!

One of my favorite scenes of her career. The monologue runs the entire gamut of emotion and she delivers it just perfectly.
