Extra tips:

1) when still hidden from an enemy serch vicinity and drop your gun from your inventory to the ground and then move it into your hands, it eliminates all animations noise you get from taking your gun out normally.

2) take your regular shoes/boots off and put on some foot wrapping or go barefoot, it makes your movement almost completely silent

3) never look around normally when enemies are nearby, use the head swivel button too look around and your character makes no noise from the small movements you would usually make looking around for the enemy

Hiding bodies and piles of loot takes a long time. You're better off simply remaining vigilant. If you go loud, only stay in the area a maximum of 5 minutes.

Another one that's important that a lot of people learn the hard way is even tho you think you're invisible in say a field of tall grass, the game has limitations meaning people far away can see you sticking out like a sore thumb because the grass isn't rendering for them at that distance.

I'll still rush when I'm going cross country. Longest time alive with my 2 accounts atm, must be over a month. Tried to resist base building but burying too much loot got annoying. So a nice 4 tower forest build is doing great so far 😅

I only use melee to dispatch zeds, (unless theres a lot of em) but I also tend to stick to treelines, avoiding all roads and paths. Too.
