I got a hunch that removing the port from the iPhone is meant to be a FU to the EU for mandating Apple use USB-C as the port. Removing the port can mean not only going to just induction charging, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, but that Apple can then introduce their own proprietary wireless charging or short-range data transfer spec for their devices that they have the patent on to wring more money and control out of.
