A lot of it comes down to Ford parts being dirt cheap and relatively easy to work on. If you can fix a Fusion or an Escape, you can fix a Focus.

St is gonna be cheaper and a little more reliable but the GTI is gonna be a nicer car to drive, especially the interior

2014 ST3 with 180, 000 miles. Still looks almost new inside and out. Neighbor has a 2015 GTI. All stock, they are very similar in performance. VW has a nicer interior, but the Ford handles a little better. My Ford seems to have lower maintenance costs as well.

When I. bought my GTI in 2015 I looked closely at the Focus ST . I liked that it was more "fun" but I hated the seats and interior. 245K miles later I went out and a Golf R this time around.

I got a big turbo ST and its been mostly reliable. I only say mostly because my stock clutch cant handle the amount of torque its making with the big turbo now

Had a Mk6 GTi with 205k miles, all the options and tuned, but will never buy one again. They just aren't practical- dont get me wrong, absolutely LOVED the car. But bang for the buck goes to the ST.

There’s no chance in hell Ford is gonna outlast a Volkswagen I literally seen 90s six golf with 750, 000 km on it. You’re lucky if three Fords get that many kilometers.
