Another easy way to spot a fake is by looking at the engraved Nintendo logo on the back of the cartridge. The “o” on “Nintendo” on a fake cartridge will be a perfect round circle. Whereas the o on an authentic copy will take the shape of an oval shaped circle. Hope that makes sense :)

Some other tidbits. If you look at the gold pins on the back. The fake doesn't have a shine to it, like the real one does.
Also, if you look at the top edge of the cartridge the real one should have a notch like all authentic DS games.
Unfortunately, the 100% way of telling if its fake/real is opening up the cartridge (i do not recommend this however) and looking at the circuit board.
A real circuit board will have gold nintendo writing on it and will have 2 gate chips. A fake one will not have gold stamp writing and will 2 gate chips & 1 simulator piece. I've encountered some scenarios where the sticker was real, and the backs look really good, but games kept freezing and the gold pins looked different...

Looks like I just bought a fake. Definitely going to request a refund before they send it. Wasn't one of those super cheap listings either, I was convinced.

Phew! Just checked my cartridge now to make sure it was real. I bought my copy (preowned) at a video game store in Australia when I was a child, I was certain they would do their due deligence and verify but a small part of me worried because of the stories I had heard. Thanks for demystifying my concerns.

The last number doesn't have to be an 8.

I got mine for $60 USD at a pawn shop, came with box and game and booklet, I was in shock because it was legit and it runs.

i think i may have bought a fake pokémon pearl from amazon back in 2017. i honestly can’t really tell from looking at the physical cartridge, but i must say it’s a very good game, never had any issues with it. zero. none. no freezing, crashing, etc.

I've had a copy of platinum sitting around for a good long while. Never played it but I had my suspicions that it was fake.

It looks almost 100% genuine, but the arrow on the bottom was engraved into the cartridge and not stamped and the game would constantly get stuck in my DS.

Looking through all my games, it suprised me that the arrow was what gave the fake away lol.

(Also if you notice, the white background where the code is on the fake game not only is bigger in size than on the real game, but the white color they use actually fades into the white used on the actual game art, specifically just under the ESRB logo. On Real cards there is a faint but noticeable separation between the two)

Dude you saved me getting scammed for 65$ as soon as I bought it I searched up how to tell if it’s fake or not and turned out the one I just bought was fake. But was able to cancel in time Big thank you!!

THanks bro, saved my ass!

I was trying to find a copy and after asking for a more realistic price for lose cartridges the seller immediately said yes which made me look up the video.

His cart was the same fake one as yours in the video and i don't doubt he knew. Can't have nice things nowadays without people asking for a leg and an arm or duping you or both.

Another thing to look out for: Look at those DS logos. Look at the screens. Notice how on the official cart, the bottom screen is slightly slanted, not perfectly centered. While on the repro cart, it is perfectly centered. I double-checked and it looks like most if not all DS games logos are like this (skewed logo). Happy hunting yall!

I bought my copy of Platinum a while back at a game store where I compete in Smash tournaments often for about $60 (originally $100 prior to discounts/free gift cards used). So glad I checked and confirmed its 100% authentic

I recently got a counterfeit Heartgold copy on Ebay. The vendor sells all kinds of other counterfeit cartridges to this day, what an asshole..
