Just came inside from spreading grass clippings as mulch and saw this. This is my first time planting my own garden. Glad for all the information here on YouTube. Thank you.

Can you use old bed sheets to cover the tomatoes or pepper plants like you would to cover flowers for frost?

Using shadecloth out here in county! My grass is sun-fried, but everything under shade cloth is doing well.

We invested in shade cloth for our Virginia garden. We had extreme temperatures and no rain for weeks. Our well went dry for a few hours multiple times because we were trying to water our gardens.

I have 60% shade cloth I used last year on my broccoli, which worked great. This year I put it on my raspberry rows and it has helped the plants not to fry, but it seems to have affected the raspberry crop a lot. I ordered 40% shade cloth the first of July from Greenhouse Megastore, but I learned later it ships from the manufacturer and it hasn’t arrived. Bummer! Up here in SW Idaho we have had the same weather pattern, temps over 100 for weeks. I covered my tomatoes with mesh curtains and that seems to be enough to help them out, the peppers haven’t been affected too much, but they’re not bearing much either. The tomatoes and 1 pepper plant I put in Wall O Water cloches in April have done great!

It’s been hot in ga too but rain and sun and my tomatoes and watermelons are loving it. I learned not to plant what has a hard time growing on this area plus since fall comes later in past 3 years we r not direct seeding in area 7 until June 5
