Out of Band Demonstration - Oureal A1 Walkie Talkies for Kids

Показать описание
My 5 year old son got a pair of these Oureal A1 walkie talkies that are advertised for kids for his birthday. I demonstrate how they can transmit out of the bands they are advertised to depending on which version you receive. These are supposed to work in the FRS/GMRS bands in the US, but the units I have here also transmit on the PMR/PMR446 European band which is also in the US 70 cm HAM band. I also show that their signal output is noisier than a common Motorola FRS/GMRS radio available in the US. One thing to note is that the Oureal A1 signal seems to be down about 10 dB from the Motorola T6500 by the time I am 100 ft/30 m away from the SDR. The spurs disappear from the signal reception fairly quickly...they are still being transmitted but they are down in the rest of the noise on the band. The audio on the A1 seems to be fairly decent when considering the price/market.
These came to my son as a gift from a relative for his 5th birthday via Amazon and I do not know the seller that sold the off-band radios. I suspect the seller might not even know they are off band and therefore it is important to determine if they are within specifications of allowed transmissions where you live - if possible.
Note: this is the first time I tried to do a video overlay and I had (obviously) difficulty synching the overlay video with the audio. Forgive me Youtubers!
I did most editing on the YouTube video editor but used Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 to do the video overlays. This ran really slow on my 7 1/2 year old laptop running Vista. Definitely would have benefited from a faster computer with a modern OS.
