Saw John in concert at King's Theater last night. A national treasure. He said this song is not about the poor people coming over the Mexican border into "our beautiful country" but "about the asshole in the White House". Brought the house down.

In fact the whole album is cracking and great to have some new JP stuff to a definite air and feel of Dylan's "Blind Willie Mctell" to this song ...."Caravan of Fools" stands on its own though and in any event Dylan's song is using the melody of "St James Infirmary" .. but its interesting how this stuff goes around.

On Sunday (March 29, 2020), John Prine was reported as being critically ill with Covid-19 symptoms. Today it is being reported that he is now in stable condition. His song "Caravan of Fools" which he has described as a song of "impending doom" and a song which might be political seems almost to have predicted what we are experiencing today with the coronavirus.
