Theory
The realm crystal is the one that keeps the realms from merging but because Lloyd destroyed the realm crystal they all started to merge with Ninjago

2 dumb theories

Theory 1: Remember how Nahdakhan's father said that all the realms are connected and if one realm goes down, another realm after goes down, and yall know how the ninja destroyed the preeminent (which i guess is connected to the curse realm) and then a season later djinjago goes down. What if after djinjago was destroyed all realms went off balance and started merging with each other


Theory 2: Yk all realms must have balnce so with light there must always be darkness or shadow, like the overlord said, and also dont forget overlord is the embodiment of evil (i think it was said in s2 before the ninja headed to the dark island) and what if in crystalized the ninja not only defeated overlord but destroyed him. So the the balance was off and all the realms started to merge with each other

Given that Wu and Garmadon got old while being seperated, which means that being seperate isn't supposed to happen, this could very well be true.

What if the destruction of the cursed realm and jinjago destabilized the connections between other realms even more? In s6, Nadakhan's father mentioned that if one of the reams is destroyed, the other would go with it. That would actually make sense with the merge since with 2 realms gone the other would be at risk.

There's also another piece of Ninjago history that justifies accusations that Wu inadvertently caused the Merge. The Legacy short "Golden Hour, " which takes place between(?) Season 7 and Season 8, features Wu and the Time Twins going to various past Ninjago moments. The first is of Kai choosing to save Lloyd instead of the fang blade in the volcano in S1E10. Another moment is during Wu's flashback to fighting with Garmadon, in S1E7, which ends with Wu saying, "as much as I wish to change this moment, I know that I cannot." That gives more weight to what Garmadon says later in Wu's flashback: "it's all Wu's fault!"
