I’m looking to switch from EON to Octopus Energy as well and this is exactly the content I was looking for to make the switching easy as well as to understand the cost of charging during peak and off peak hours.

Thanks for sharing your experience

IO is superb. Usually charge on the weekend on my 3 pin granny charger. The app gives me pretty much the whole day at the low rate when the network has capacity. Loving it.

the offpeak window doesnt really matter with intellegent. you just plug in when you need to charge and it creates a dynamic schedule based on grid capacity. its important to not select off peak charging only. example i plugged in Sunday afternoon and it charged stright away. it also means your entire house gets the off peak rate at that time so get dish washer, cooker, washer on.

I was on the go tariff for several years but now on intelligent tariff. I don’t bother with the intelligent bit as I charge our car and battery on the 6 hour cheap window. Octopus Energy are a brilliant company.

Good video. I’ve been with Octopus Energy since July and using Intelligent but was told only use the Octopus App to schedule my EV charging and not my Hypervolt. Once you input the % of charge required on the Octopus App it’ll give you the schedule and will automatically talk to my Hypervolt charger.

been with IO for 4 months. It is fantastic, saving me a lot of money. Use with a BMW i3 and Hypervolt. Plus Octopus has excellent customer service - streets ahead of the rest.

I have a wallbox charger and am on go atm, I am trying to move to Intelligent Octopus, but only get as far as the test connection part, it spins for 10minutes then says it cannot control the car. it is a bit annoying and confusing as the Wallbox app shows the charger as connected to OCPP.

Had an ev since July 18 and we charge at home 99% of the times. Highest every paid with Octopus Go was 3p per mile and that was last year. Now back to under 2p.
It takes about 10 seconds to plug in every night and probably less to unplug in the morning and that’s all. For my circumstances it’s working fine

Good prices. Unfortunately very slow customer help. May take several weeks to months to reply...

I wasn't attracted to this type of tariff - the fact that all usage benefits from the lower rate means that the "normal" rate is typically lifted so that the Supplier is not reducing income from normal household usage during the nigh time window. You are then faced with the need to move as much high-consumption usage such as dishwashers, washing machines and tumble dryers to the night window to make sure that you are not increasing the charge for this type of use due to the lifted daytime tariff. This could provide an opportunity to save but it implies a level of discipline my family will not achieve. I was an Ovo customer and was attracted to the fact that Ovo doesn't alter the normal capped charge for all use other than the EV which it controls and monitors using (in my case) the Renault API. I plug in any time I like, set a desired outcome (80% or 100% normally) and a desired completion time - typically 7:30am. Ovo then control the car to take a charge so as to meet my requirement.

I don't think the charger matters. You need a smart meter and a car that is compatible. I use a cheap ass 3 pin granny and works beautifully.

If you know the correct handshake, you can join IO. For those of us with EVs, not a chance.

THE BIGGEST MISTAKE all EV OWNERS make is to completely 'forget' that once hooked to ev, YOU ARE VERY EASY PREY FOR ALL THE FORIEGN OWNED ELECTRICTY COMPANIES TO RAISE THEIR PRICES AS THEY HAVE BEEN DOING FOR THE LAST 24 OMG this bloke illustrates exactly the reason I will not waste ENDLESS HOURS LOOKING AT mind boggling be a geek !
Yes I appreciate that ICE vehicles also face increases, BUT I can drive into ANY garage & fill up & be on my way in 10 ev owners are STILL driving around looking for a working charge point....once you find one, then the charges forget the time spent sitting around & the additional costs of over priced cakes & endless coffee. meanwhile I'm at home finished for the
