Colombia is one of the world’s most biodiverse countries, but the nation’s breadth of fauna makes it a hotspot for the illegal trade of animals, which are coveted as pets, meat or medicinal products. This video explores the factors fueling the trafficking of Colombian wildlife and reveals the animals at greatest risk of being ensnared in the trade. It also shares what can be done to combat it.

This video is part of a project -- financed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) -- that looks at the four criminal activities driving deforestation in Colombia’s Amazon and Pacific Coast: land grabbing, illegal gold mining, timber and wildlife trafficking. InSight Crime, WWF Colombia, Transparency Colombia and the Foundation for Conservation and Sustainable Development (FCDS) partnered on the project, which also seeks to identify actionable recommendations to stop the destruction of the Andean nation’s biodiversity.
