Joy Crookes is an over-thinker. “What makes me happiest is not thinking, just being,” she smiles. “And it’s really hard to be in that state all the time.” Crookes has, admittedly, quite a lot to think about. The Brit Award-nominated and Mercury Prize-shortlisted singer and songwriter is a London born-and-raised star on the ascent. At only 23, and with one album under her belt (2021's cult hit Skin) she has had a remarkable career to date, and an especially successful last year; not least a performance at Glastonbury this summer.

“The career moment that changed my life was playing the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury,” she agrees. “It was such a monumental moment in my career and I don’t think I will ever be the same again.”

First came across her on Ken Bruce’s Piano Room episodes.
She came across as a mature, well spoken and gifted young lady. No “finking”..”like”…”nuffink” just level headed and grounded.
I bought her album SKIN I was so impressed with her and her music.

Okay, I’m here because The Official Clash IG page gave her a shout out today. I’m glad they did because some folks claim The Clash as an influence but it’s not that deep. I’m a grown man and if I met Mick Jones unexpectedly, I would be full on snot crying. Huge respect.

I shall recommend this video to my grand daughter. It comes across as sound advice, although the bit about knowing when to get home - always best to know when to do that if you want to stay out of trouble! BTW, I like your singing, but I'm sure she's already heard that.
