Was doing a hot final tie-in years ago on 36” in Virginia. Air movers doing their job. I’m running a tack on the bottom quarter when I hear whoop whoop whoop 💥 BOOM Purple K and fire flying everywhere.!!! Tie-in foreman ended up getting hurt but everyone else was ok and the weld was good 👍🏻

We just use a PCF and tapping equipment on most of our distribution lines. Our main lines on the other hand get tied in this way. The only difference is we use an 1-1/2” to control gas flow.

Last week I had to sweat in a T on a 1/2 copper cold water inlet in the kitchen for an add on bar sink, fired up the old bezomatic and went to town!

This brings me memories of my grandad. He was a welder for So Cal Gas back in the 30's and 40's badge # 762 . he would say it takes real stones to weld a tap on a high pressure line.. He told us all stories and now i see the video 40 years later ...kudos gramps... Where is the shoring? They prolly never heard of OSHA

I took welding at vocational school and it was how just welding. I couldnt imagine this insane heat.

So I assume valves were off but gas was leaking through causing the flames so at least the gas is venting
