In the midst of a summer COVID surge, the CDC is warning doctors about two other infectious diseases on the rise that are putting certain groups at risk. The messages were sent through the CDC's Health Alert Network to physicians.

In 1971, I contracted the parvovirus along with rheumatic fever (they believed back then that both were complicated by scarlet fever, but I was not tested for that at the time because why bother?). To this day - as of testing in 2020 - I _still_ carry parvo in my system; no I cannot infect it to others (and, yes, the rheumatic fever caused permanent heart, joint and nervous system damage). What I remember is constant ice baths to keep my fever down as at one point it reached almost 104, which would’ve been lights out, goodnight for good as a child.

I work at an airport and caught something called human metapneumovirus. It put me DOWN. Developed pneumonia and ended up needing to be admitted to the hospital. I have asthma and smaller than average lungs so it made me extra susceptible to it. Had never heard of it before! It was terrible. There's tons of these viruses out here.
