14:23 Schedule a vacation for the whole family, but make it a surprise. When you get there and your dad asks where you are, look him dead in the eyes with a confident smile and say “We’re in Finland.”

Most of these examples have nothing to do with the Dunning-Kruger effect at all, but just plain stuoidity or misplaced confidence. Not exactly the same thing.

There was one discussion on Tumblr, with a guy who claimed himself an "historian" that was going to debunk the stupidity. During the discussion, he asked if there was any influential character that agreed with the other guy. Other guy proceeded to show him parts of George Bernard Shaw's texts that agreed with him. So, what does this historian say? "I don't care about the opinion of a random american poet".

Nobody will ever let him live it down.

It’s my dad, thinks he knows everything about computers because he ‘reads’ a pc magazine every month. Downloads every bits of free software the magazine tells him to without getting rid of the other software. At the moment he has 8 anti-malware, 12 anti-viruses and 15 other software that’s going to help ‘speed up’ his computer. Then complains to me his computer is running slow but it’s not the numerous software running all at the same time it’s must be because of (insert something stupid).

On a lecture at uni once after a female gender study student explained what mansplaining was, a dude began to explain why it's not true and how things are. The best part was how the gender study student looked both bored and resigned like she saw it coming.

The Dunning Kruger effect is about assuming high competence in a field based on an incomplete knowledge of it, usually based on having received some knowledge. It is a failure to understand how big the field is based on ones limited understanding of it, which is usually at novice level. It affects most of us at one time or another and is not quite the same as most of the stupidity shown here.

One time a person told me and I quote, :I'm not an atheist. I just don't believe in God or religion."

The teacher one really got me. I’ve had so many teachers that are out of the loop on modern developments in their fields of “study.” And because it’s ego destroying to have a student correct you, they simply deny logic and fact in order to maintain their beliefs. Not realizing they are causing less educated human beings as a consequence of doing their profession wrong.

I’m very passionate about psycho-pharmacology, ethnobotany, and ethnomycology. You can imagine the nightmare that was my high school D.A.R.E program in health class.

Literally just getting shut down every other word trying to explain how marijuana is not an opioid to a cross clutching Karen that studied administration and physical education.

When people use projection as an argument when it’s not warranted.

"When people are to ignorant to understand why they are wrong."
For one thing, that's not the Dunning-Kruger effect.

The thing about Dunning-Kruger is that it goes both ways: low end people tend think they know more than they do and experts, being aware of what they don't know, underestimate their expertise.

That being said my wife is biggest example. She tends to think that she's only a little above average in intelligence. She is not, she's one of the smartest people I know and we know a lot of very smart people.

14:20 as a person who is 50% finnish and born in the USA i can say finland does not exist, it is more magical than canada. THEIR CHRISTMAS TRADITION IS MAKING LITTLE GMONES AND LISTENIGN TO HEAVY Also Saunas are a gift form the gods that it seems only the Finnish have taken full advantage of. In Finland even lower class houses still have a personal sauna and apartment complexes have large public saunas.
