Autodesk just announced, again, that they're laying off 9% of their entire workforce amounting to 1350 redundancies. Yikes.

It's been a while since I did any recording so my mic noise gate was set a bit high, a couple of words got cut off here and there but nothing worth correcting. Also, in 2017 I had only been doing YouTube for 3 years not 6, for some reason I thought I started in 2011 for a brief moment! Either way, please feel free to use the comment section to tell your story or advertise yourself.

This is a good warning to the employees who weren't laid off this time. It does not matter if the company is doing well what matters today is a quick bonus when the stock value goes up.

Brutal 48hours. Project managers, sales, customer success and marketing. Some similar roles cut from 2017. Lots of "etc." titles. The messaging delivered during the "One Team Conference" too. 3 days of pep rallys and partying and then on your flight home, people get laid off. Cold message indeed. With all the complexities of the license procurement and administration, the one thing customers want is to talk to a human being that actually works at Autodesk. Still lacking a tangible AI value proposition in the tools. Clearly pressure from activist stakeholders to take the rag and squeeze. (So much so, that it had to be mentioned that it was "not.")

Still a great company and place to work. Just missed the mark on this one.

Best of luck to those impacted.

It's irritating, knowing Autodesk is laying people off when there are so many problems with Autodesk Construction Cloud, Navisworks, and Revit that they're trying to push. Surely someone in that group can fix these issues.
Massive shame, good luck to all affected.

Also, with regards to video frequency, I think you're right to just pop up when you got some news. I think you left a great legacy with all your tutorials.

Thanks for bring this to our attention Neil. The whole "self-serve" rubbish for customers, simply means a solid future of further layoffs. It's really starting to feel like my last year using an Autodesk product. I heavily dislike companies that shaft their employees whilst prioritising profits for shareholders first.

Exactly! We have been wondering for the last two years—Autodesk keeps talking about AI, but in practice, there isn’t much connection between the AI it offers and what we have in mind as AI.

You still have a lot of people interested in your point of view (me included) of software, hardware and business. Even if I work in architecture, I still got a used Pro laptop (Dell Precision 7720) for my job only because of your perfect explanations what is what. Thank you for you job!

"These changes position us to better meet the evolving needs of our customers and channel partners" We're now on our 3rd CSM in 2-years. Having to start fresh each time is not an evolving need of mine.

Are they employing a project team and thinning out when they put the project/product to end of life. A bit like BAE employing teams to build weapons systems are letting them loose when the project matures and the company moves on to the next project.

Do they not believe we can see pointless word salad when when it's put in front of us!

I"m about done with Advance Steel. Some f*ckin genius at Autodesk decided they were going to make Revit a steel detailing tool and put Advance Steel into maintenance which we all know means its going to get killed at some point in the near future. Going to make the switch to something else Bricscad based. Unfortunately I've been balls deep in Inventor for too long to abandon that one.

Does everyone worked his a** off? I dont know, i dont have insights. But it is known, the larger the company, the more employees are simply fellow swimmers. This is the reason why people are laid off cyclically. Of course, the news only shows the numbers of those laid off - drama sells
officially stated number of employees at Autodesk
2018: 8.800
2019: 9.600
2020: 10.100
2021: 11.500
2022: 12.600
2023: 13.700
2024: 14.100 (i got numbers)

But otherwise I can only agree. The message reads like embellished marketing - and I hardly know anyone who prefers the licensing system

People tend to like capitalism as long as they profit.
Most people probably realized by now that investing in the stock market has a greater outcome than most paid labor.

Time to start looking at other options. 2025 with PDMC has been very unstable and falls behind fusion on CAM and Nesting in so many ways.
