Toby Fox made Undertale as practice for Deltarune, so while they might end up connected at some point, I don't think that's why they're so similar.

The fandom isn’t terrible anymore, most of the toxic people moved on to ruin other communities due to the lack of content, leaving the real passionate fans behind (Undertale Yellow devs for example)

I'm not here to argue about the quality of Undertale's community (I'd recommend watching the great "What the Internet did to Undertale" video by Super Eyepatch Wolf) I but I will say: You CANNOT say that the story is Undertale was a "Fan-work" that was a video from a content farm that goes around making terrible song parodies for games, and for some reason people keep assuming the undertale community liked their song, I can assure you that we hate that song far more then you

Really i would say the community WAS toxic back in the day, but really since about 2021 it’s been pretty good

The fandom ain’t that bad that’s only I whould say around 1-5% if you look at the quality fan games they’re really good (ts Underswap, don’t forget, undertale yellow and more)

About the community, they were a bit weird in other ways when making the thousands of AUs, but I do think that people who hated the game were probably worse (cough* guy who was convicted for attempted assassination against a fan artist of underfell *cough)
