Are half your lights out? Here is how to fix those small battery operated fairy or Christmas lights that have a broken connection. Because the wires are thin they are prone to snapping and as a result I imagine a lot are thrown out. :(
Here's how to quickly repair your copper wire fairy lights with only a lighter and some sand paper.

Thank you very much, it’s such a relief that this works! Here’s a tip for those who have fairy lights with silver wires — When you burn the ends of the damaged silver wire, make sure that the silver wire turns to the red-brown color of copper before you twist them together! :)

I can't thank you enough for the simplicity and honesty of this video. I purchased 4 solar powered strings of lights and waited for magic to happen. When it got dark, I noticed one string was not working only to find that while trimming dead branches off the bushes, I cut through the wire on my one set of lights. I have spent two hours crying and trying to find an answer to fixing them without needing the schematic for the solar box, going through zillions of very confusing instructions and then I came across your video!! Simple, very well explained and you answered questions in the commnent section for the things I was still wondering about. These lights are very special to me as I made a memorial garden in honor of my parents, inlaws and other family members we have lost all within the last 5 years. Since it took just about 3 months for the lights to arrive, I didn't look forward to having to re-order them as they wouldn't be here in time for this summer. Now, thanks to you, I can fix the set I cut through, laquer the patch and they will be good to go. Blessings, love and light for your wonderful help. You are amazing!! <3 <3 <3

Worked a treat! My husband thought I was bonkers when he saw me trying to fix mine… Slightly different scenario to your wires as mine were plug in and had snapped off from the mains but it absolutely worked still! Husband now thinks I’m a diy genius!!! 😂

Thank you for this excellent video. I accidently cut thru my fairy lights and spent a lot of time fiddling with them trying to fix with tape like an idiot! This totally works, was super easy, and you saved my lights from the landfill.

Four years later, a middle aged man would watch this video and save Christmas. Thank you so much for your tutorial! Our specially made Lollipop Lawn Decoration is now fixed and shining bright. You have my gratitude.

Thank you so much. I was literally losing sleep over the fact that I took hours untangling it and then it ripped and this actually worked. I tried putting it together but without the lighter and the sanding this is why I love you too thank you thank you thank you❤

Having made and then threaded numerous glittery toadstools on to the fairy wire and then seeing a break 1/3rd from the end, I was heartbroken and so crestfallen. This has made my day and saved about a week of crafting from going down the proverbial drain. Thank you

Thank you. First, I was able to fix my string of lights. But more importantly, you show that young people still think and learn how to do things. This is very comforting. Please keep it up, always strive to learn more. And if you choose to share that knowledge so much the better.

Awesome, it works!!!
Just saying: As for me, it worked just with sand paper (done thoroughly). Thanks for the rack 😊

I agree with everyone else of the honesty and simplicity of this video. I was dubious at first. I have lights in a timer with two strands each. Don't connect all together, do them separately. I put a but if electrical tape in them so they wouldn't unravel in future. We need more videos like this to prevent everything going to landfill.

Thanks a million! I didn't know they cover the wire with the lacquer. Now I see why I struggled with my garlands, haha.
Now, I've bought a looong cheap garland without battery case or usb, for my handmade project, and I knew someone on youtube would explain it to me as how to deal with the wire. So many nice people here, so helpful ^^ Thanx again!

THANK YOU!!!
I've bought lights 4x! And I broke the 4th one right at the end too. I legit cried in frustration.
I was curious if they could be fixed and this was the first video I watched.
Im so happy you showed us this, I seriously cant thank you enough.

You saved the day for me! I went to wrap the lights around a column, dropped them and when I picked them up they were so tangled that only a fool (me) would try to untangle. Three long hours later I was finally at the end and a wire broke. Actually 2 wires because these fairy lights have two instead of one. Finally found your video and it worked except for one thing and this is important. After twisting the wires in pairs togther they didn't light. I kept fiddling around and saw 1 flash so I know it was on the way. It took another 45 minutes to realize I had to also put the two pairs next to each other and then twist incredibly tightly together to get the lights to stay on. So: First twist the pairs. Next twist the two pairs around and around each other, making each twist as tight as you possibly can.
