Seed - Carrier of the Promise

The Bible highlights imagery of reproductive vegetation throughout its narrative. Not only this, but it builds on this imagery to speak of God’s promises of abundance. In this video, Prof. Wright unpacks the uses of seed language in the Bible, which is often downplayed in English translations, in order to draw a throughline of God’s purposes from creation to new creation. God has put the principle of ongoing life into the world, in order to work in the world, through the world.

Reading the Images is a weekly series of videos from N.T. Wright Online which explores the common images that run throughout the Biblical narrative.

Thanks for explaining this invaluable mystery of God’s Eternal Purpose. The promise to Abraham speaks of what He intended for man through Adam to multiply His image and found it’s fulfillment in the last Adam in whose believers resembles His image.

Prof. Wright, a brilliant analysis of the topic - enabling our minds, our hearts and our imaginations, to comprehend and acknowledge God’s fulfilment of His ultimate promise for humanity in Jesus Christ.

The Creator's intention is to return us to paradise lost. That is the seed of Eve and Adam before the fall.

I do like the NRSV, but I wish the committee behind the updated edition had reverted back to the "seed" of the KJV. Retaining this figure of speech feels appropriate for the standard scholarly version.
