Beautiful. Some interesting choices as far as lyrics and the album title. The overall message of this song sounds like a parent imparting to a child, but then there is the "you came to sing your song, they just came to record you." Makes me think of how frustrating it can be for today's performers, particularly in a live setting.
Then the title of the album "When a Crooner Dies" when you consider the progression of musical styles that he has gone through since his first album which was songs mostly from musicals as vocal jazz. Certainly this direction was musically referenced on his last album "Mr" which opened with "Stronger Magic" - a tune that started out sounding like a jazz standard and then pivoted away from that quite radically production wise.
