CSXT is a reality in 1988, and power from all the joined railroads is showing up everywhere. This clip, Part 1, is nothing but pure Chessie painted locomotives. Some already have been patched with small CSXT decals on the cab.

Hope you enjoy this clip of the Chessie's final days. Once the views get over 2000, watch for a second part. .

Thanks for watching. Please be sure to check out my many other video clips from the 1970's up to today.

Love this era. Seaboard units in the mix as well. 1988 was awesome one CSX 👍

Grew up with immediate family that worked on and in the Chessie lines. Good stuff here. If this is the same Jack that was on Google+ back in the day, it's good to see you made an impact on Youtube as well.

Thank you thank you thank you for these last days of Chessie memories. I used to be a railfan my favorite railroad was always Chessie. Nothing EVER compared to the yellow, vermillion, and blue with the sleeping kitty emblem. My favorite engine was the GP40-2 and it was the Chessies as well. They kept homage to the C&O and B&O as well as WM with their paint scheme and with paying tribute by putting the letters of the former company on the engines which I greatly appreciated as a railfan. The engineers were always friendly AND the Chessie higher ups loved railfans and allowed us a lot of leeway. Once Conrail came around they wrecked all the beauty and history of railroads. The CSX was a good idea financially but losing the color schemes was the most damaging thing they ever did for the railroad.

I was growing up in the last days of the B&O and the Chessie years. The Chessie paint is what I grew to love and the K5LA will always be my favorite horn next to an RS5T.

I grew up in coal country next to the tracks. Used to watch trains all day. Loved Chessie System. Thanks a bunch for bringing back good times and memories

I grew up on this same line, just a later section of it. I believe this is ex B&O, now CSX Chicago to Baltimore mainline. I grew up on the Ohio section as it passes through Kent Ohio. I remember what remnants of B&O remained, especially the CPLs. There was a signal light across the river from my bedroom and during the winter, the CPL would light up the snow. So these are the trains that defined my childhood and OBSESSION with trains. Well...Conrail too.

up until the end, chessie seemed to take pride in their locos.
washing them routinely.
i remember in 1979, in cincy, stockyard terminal, when they brought in a WM SD40 for a bath.(a red/black one)
after the bath they put it on the turntable for a spin. and WOW! until the water dried, (5min.) it looked amazing in color!

Thanks Jack. Live the old power. Locos look so short. I remember when an SD40 was king of the hill.

Terrific catches/power/meets/races! I believe one of those engines is being used as a ride at the B and O museum in Baltimore.

Back in 1979 my friend's and I went on vacation to Hagerstown MD. And Shenandoah Jct.
That was my first of many vacations we went on together.
SEEING the 2 Western Maryland BL2's SWITCHING the yard was amazing!

Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific both have heritage engines. I think BNSF and CSX especially should have some heritage units of their own. The railroads that CSX once were had some fantastic paint schemes and it would be great to see them nowadays.
