I don’t think Gon ever realized how important he was to killua. Killua came from such a hostile environment, so when he finally made a friend he could see what he was missing out on, but gon never had to go through that. So of course killua isn’t going to want to lose the first thing that showed him freedom, but gon doesn’t know what’s it’s like to be truly alone, so he doesn’t compensate
