I’m about 2 hours in and I hope the jumping mechanic figures itself out. I’ve spent minutes attempting the same jump from a platform to a tunnel entrance - which is poor design of layout and a base mechanic. The angle is off. I can’t high enough to go as far as I need to because of the ceiling. And the tunnel floor comes too early so I can’t hit the ceiling and miss the floor. It’s jump ceiling floor. Over and over. I’ve made the jump twice, I’m not sequence breaking. And the next to nothing platforms you jump to and from look square but the design box seems round. I don’t think one should fall multiple times trying to get up one screen. This needs to be mentioned.

Edit: Shortly after writing my original comment, I found the Dash ability which addresses most of the jumping issues. Then Space Boots (Double Jump). And as this game is opening up, I’m getting that feeling that only a good MV game gives me. Hollow Knight also took a few abilities for it to click as well. And I’m not sure how people are saying it’s 5-6 hours playtime. I’m 7 hours in and almost to my first ship part. I love it! Granted, I’m checking every wall, floor and ceiling for hidden items. Great game!!

favorite games? you and i were off only by a generation. im guessing im older and the NES was my third console. (pong, arari 2600)
metroid blew me away. these days im playing Metroid Dread and Metroid Prime Remastered on my switch. i just got Demon Skin today
and added this to my wish list for next week's game.

I just finished the game and in my opinion along with the strengths you mentioned it also has a lot of weaknesses. Starting with the map and the terrain which does not tell you where a secret entrance would be. You are supposed to hit every square inch of the terrain to see if it can be broken or not. Then you have the problematic "your amour will get reduced after you died" meachanic which only arifically prolongs the game since you will still always have the option to walk to the next statue before trying again. Same applies to the fact that savepoints are in most cases a few screens forom the boss so that you will always have to fight low level enemies again and again before reaching the boss. Ghost Song also has a big problem in telling the player where they even COULD go next because more often than not it shows you parts of the map which you never were in before. This can lead to areas which you thought were visited before but weren't. The bosses also have a little bit too much health ... in the end it always bacomes a fight of endurance ... until you get the really powerful weapons. The game unfortunately ALSO does not indicate which boss is a progression boss (dropping a new ability you need for traversal) or just a boss that dops another weapon ... so you might end up trying to beat a certain boss just to realize in the end that it was optional. Yes, the game looks pretty good and the overheating mechanic that also gives additional strength along with the charms from Hollow Knight is well done and makes fun ... but it could have been so much better without these problems I mentioned.

Get this game if you want a very awesome metroid style, visuals and tunes alone are good nvm the toys you find.
