Here's the super Denis Quilley version of Epiphany from the short-lived original London cast of Sweeney Todd, 1980. This London production was my first Sondheim show and sucked me in for life. The original cast poster is a prized possession (that's the program, er, programme, in the video...).

Wow. That is quite possibly the best Epiphany I've ever heard. The attack from the orchestra is tremendous and Quilley makes a terrifying Sweeney.

Unbelievable. Like precious rubies. And I can listen to it again thank you very much!
I came here from the South Bank show with Sondheim where I saw Denis Quilley in the makeup and knew immediately he was going to be special. It was in the eyes.
And like someone else said, that orchestra is on fire

I like the transposition, and the increased tempo is rivetting, even if I prefer my Epiphany on the slower side. The orchestra sounds terrific and aggressive, and Denis fluctuates between psychotic and soaring with ease and unpredictability. This might not be my favorite version, but I quite like it nonetheless. I would actually quite like to have heard a studio recording of this

The whole cast works great, but Sheila Hancock is NOT a pleasant singer! She's fine in the role, just not great in singing
