In the 2017 offseason, Kevin Durant shocked the world by signing with the Golden State Warriors, creating one of the most overpowered teams in NBA history. In 2016, the Warriors had already set a record with 73 wins and had MVP Steph Curry, along with All-Stars Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. Adding Durant made this team even more unbeatable. Durant's decision was especially controversial because he left behind his best friend and All-Star teammate, Russell Westbrook. Just a year before, Durant and Westbrook's team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, were up 3-1 against the Warriors in the playoffs. Instead of fighting to come back stronger and beat the Warriors, Durant chose to join them, turning himself into one of the biggest villains in the NBA. In this video, we break down the truth behind why Durant made this decision and the intense backlash he faced because of it.

This is the prime example of how "NBA player" is one of the few career paths where people expect the players to do as the fans want. Most of us in our everyday life would go to a better company or chase a bigger paycheck without hesitation, and we would call those the smart moves. But somehow KD is "weak" for doing it.

Also this is the prime example of how the media twists things to cause drama. The strongest case for the "KD-Russ beef" is...them trash talking each other on the way to the bench during a timeout. Something tells me much worse things were said during practice at some point in the 9 years they played together.
