Postpartum Shedding┃My Experience

In this video, I talk about Postpartum shedding and my experiences with it after having my son. Many people have asked whether I suffered with any form of hair loss and if so, how I managed with it, so I thought I would do a video about it.

Not everyone will experience Postpartum shedding, however unfortunately for me, I did and it wasn't a good experience. I had excessive shedding which last for 12 months and has left my hair a lot less thicker than once was and my hairline fell out. It was difficult to manage my hair throughout the transition, but I just continued to keep up with my hair growth regime and feel that my hair is slowly returning back to where it once was.

If you've experienced Postpartum shedding, don't let it stop you. It can be a hard time, but just keep going and your hair will eventually return back to normal.

My temples areas were really bad and so I had to wear hairstyles to try and cover it. It worked, but I got bored of wearing the same styles all the time. But I'm glad you came across my video and now know the cause of it.

I so understand. I'm experiencing this as well. You're right, you have to just continue to do what you've been doing. I have just been doing protective style (in the form of wigs) and this has helped me cope with it. And just keep me out of my hair while it repairs.

Yes the temples is a common area. But, I'm glad it didn't last too long and that you didn't have excessive shedding!

Yes, it's a hard time and very disheartening, but thank god it's only temporary and we do end up getting through it. Glad it worked out well for you!

I’m so grateful you didn’t delete these videos.
I’ve been following you for many years and I refer back to these videos occasionally.
I’ve just had my first baby and I remember you covered this topic, it’s finally relevant to me- so glad it’s still here for me to refer to.
Grateful ❤

Awww...that makes me feel good to hear that watching my video has made you condition your hair after a month of doing nothing. There's definitely an end to it and it's only temporary, so definitely keep going. By the way, congratulations on the birth of your daughter! :)

I started my HJ 2 years ago after my son was born. The postpartum shedding was the whole reason I started. My hair recovered well but I'm back there again. I had a lovely girl 5 months ago and the shedding is worse than before. I had already given up on my hair but thanks to this video I've just conditioned my hair after a whole month of just covering with a scarf! Thanks a lot. I'll try and keep going, there's an end to this!

Thank you! I'm glad it worked out well for you. It's a good thing it's only temporary, although it does feel like it lasts for ever when your going through.

Thank you! Yes, being prepared in advance will help you cope with it a lot better (if it happens) of course.

Your welcome! It must have been a horrible time for you in 2010, but I'm glad to hear it all worked out well for you in the end.

Thank you for this! I noticed my postpartum shedding about 6 months after having my first child. I have been in tears for months trying to figure out what’s going on with my hair. I plan on watching more of your videos and creating a new regime.

I also experienced post partum shedding and it was very disheartening because it happened just when I started seeing results from my hair routine. I ended up cutting off about 2 inches, although I was tempted to chop it all off! The trim did help with removing the frail ends and giving a healthier look. I also decided to texlax to give more texture and thickness. I also use castor oil on my edges for regrowth. Those steps worked well for me. All the best!

rough sheding now and my temples are so thin.a few weeks ago they where bald.I have been using sulfur8 medicated original formula and where two french braids or a high bun. It has started to restore my hair near my temple. My hair is so thin now but others can't tell if I wear my curly style. after watching your video I feel much better about my choice to cut some of my hair to help with the ends. I though I may have lupus cause I have never heard of postpertum hair lost until coming across this

This is a great vid. I am nearly 3 and 1/2 months pregnant and my hair is a little past APL. I hope I don't get too knocked with postpartum shedding. If it happens, I will be a little more prepared. Thank you

Sorry to hear that! Maybe next time don't wear your braids and just allow your hair to naturally shed. Try giving your hair a good wash & condition, followed up with your leave in conditioner. But do this with your hair in 4 sections to help you manage it better. Your hair will need a lot of TLC now, so just try to take extra care.
