Hey thanks for checking out the video, I decided not to edit out any of the parts I said I would in the end hope you don’t mind. New gen smersh is definitely my preferred rig over the old gen one, if you think I’m wrong please tell me why in the comments I’d love to hear, anyway have a good one thanks again.

I plan to do a comparison video between the smersh and the partisan harness in the future, and eventually a comprehensive video on the smersh, it’s predecessors and any other information I can find on it.

Just found your video, really informative and straight to the point! I feel confident in buying a new gen now knowing I’m not missing out on anything really. I plan to customize it anyway especially in some of the areas you highlighted. Thanks! I hope to see you upload some more.

Somethings to note there's a generation of smersh in-between the new and "old gen" which was the new gen smersh design with old gen materials. also there's mustard and oxford smersh which are old gen which can vary and some have molle some don't. I've seen the loops on the back of shoulder straps used for camelbaks, they can be kind of used for drag handles but I prefer the new gens drag handle. You can find old gens without the snaps for grenades. pre oxford smersh usually use black plastic buckles rather than the olive ones. I also believe the smersh buttpack is a clone of one of the USGI alice buttpacks with some minor changes. not all new gens come with loops in the first aid pouch. whether the tags are on certain parts or not I believe can vary but I think sometimes they have just been removed from previous owners.
The main reason people believe old gen to be best is because they have been used more with the Russians than the new gen, even recently and as you've said they're better for people who do impression kits. Also the recent decline in quality control by SSO's products, like materials, stitching and as you've said the buckles. I have also heard about old gens being better under night vision than new gen but I'm not how true that is and I can't test it myself. I also never noticed the wider shoulder straps despite owning these for about 2 years.
I've had both a new gen smersh (straight from SSO) and an oxford smersh (second hand) and a friend of mine owns the in-between generation smersh I've mentioned it might just be my bias but the old gen I have feels nicer than my new gen I also prefer the less shiny material of the old gens of smersh.
Last of all Decent video there's not too many comparison videos of smersh rigs and it feels like you really have to search for some info on some versions of the rig what aren't the new gen, nice to see less talked about variants of the smersh. Great video, sorry for the wall of text and mostly useless information.
