Transcript:

So, my name is Lieutenant-General Chris Whitecross, coming out of the NATO Defense College, and I’m here as a member of the Gender Equality Advisory Council. And we’re here talking about women in peace and security.

My name is Yoko Hayashi, I’m a lawyer in Tokyo, and I’m a member of the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women. So, like Chris, I’m a member of the Gender Equality Advisory Council, the appointed party of the Prime Minister of Canada.

So, we’re here today for the foreign ministers’ meeting, and we’re talking about the role of women in conflict resolution, and not just during conflict but in post-resolution ideology as well. And we’re also here to talk to the security ministers’ meeting, to talk about human trafficking.

The central point is that women are the agents for change, not only the victims of conflicts or violations, but that women should take an active role to transform the world.
