By RTM Curators: Noemi Biro, Nizar el Manouzi and Cheryl Asruf

In our first meeting when we were just meeting with the curators and we were still defining the common ground for what we would like from RTM, the idea of a house to hatch eggs in came up. It was our way to talk about the care & the platform that we wanted to give the Rotterdam-based makers. Then, this idea morphed into a greenhouse, as a symbol of many.

On one hand for us it’s the symbol of this original idea that we give extra care for makers that are local, the ones that are maybe still starting off and need the extra information, but also the ones that already made it, so we can initiate connections.

On the other hand, the scale and inspiration for the greenhouse is the House from the Woonopstand protest in Rotterdam. A house that represents systematic failures, unheard voices and injustice. A house also represents the livability of our planet, to make a home out of and take care of its surroundings.

We saw during the selection process how these topics find their way into the films. We wanted to bring together the makers in the greenhouse to have these conversations.

Starting from the thematics of two compilations: Dream State and Empowerment we investigate further. We think these conversations are needed, relevant and urgent. Our hope is that by archiving them they can bring new growth to those who listen.
