It really is some of the best environments in the series great lore and story and a challenging plat/game which is overall very unique to this game with having to control two characters very gud game

As someone who loves the fixed camera RE games, RE0 was definitely the warranted end of that style of gameplay. The shared inventory and cooperative cast was a neat idea, but it was far too aggressive with the limited space and multiple space key items and weapons. The item box is a good feature that makes routing interesting and the challenge of real survival mode in the remake was a novel way to play the game, but the necessity to drop items and retrieve them later while having no central depository causes far too much time dedication to item routing rather than actually playing the core of the game. The movement also feels… off. It’s definitely not a clone of the movement system in REmake, as it does not feel as clean and snappy. It almost feels like the back of my characters’ shirts are being pulled while I’m running and stairs are painfully slow to ascend and descend.

As for the story, you could absolutely tell that they were running out of ideas and adding unnecessary elements to the plot- believing it answers questions that no one couldn’t plausibly explain. It defies logic how Rebecca behaves in the first game given what she already knows and experienced in RE0, Wesker and Birkin are written cartoonishly deistic, and none of the events of the game end up mattering at all to the grander plotline. If you removed RE0 from existence, nothing couldn’t be explained with less prosaic filler than RE0 felt the need to add. I feel like the series had a tenuous grasp on the idea of “show don’t tell” in the Arklay region story after RE3.

Got this gem originally in GameCube what feels like a century ago. Still have it and the system too! It was a huge deal to me. Loved it then and still play it now but on ps4.

RE0 is in my top 3. I wish they made normal mode slightly harder and hard mode slightly easier. For most casual players; hard mode is just undoable. But I love it and I embrace the challenge this game provides. I also love the no item box feature. So good.

I wish the would’ve gave the 0 / 1 remake treatment to the original re2 and 3 so that way people who liked those styles more could still be happy and capcom could still have their versions of the remakes
