I would not say that one is better than the other, They both do what they do well. I own a Bourgeois Country Boy. It is twenty years old now. And yes, it sounds magnificent.

Very nice comparison. Both are excellent sounding guitars. I have two Collings (D2H - sitka and rosewood and D1A - adi and mahogany) and two Bourgeois (JOM - Adi and rosewood and Country Boy Deluxe - adi and figured mahogany). One brand is not superior to the other. They are both wonderful. I would agree with you that the Collings tend to be a little brighter, while the Bourgeois are more balanced. It's not about which is better, it's about preference. I'm glad I have both. They both speak to me in different ways and make me want to play different styles.

Well this is crazy, i emailed Eric about that exact Collings D1AT Friday, and bought it tonight. then saw this video a few hours after Happy to say that I liked the collings as well!

Collings are definitely brighter and not just the traditional models. It sounds as though you're picking closer to the saddle (even though you're not). The Collings will cut through a mix in a band setting. That said, if I was a solo player I would probably opt for the Bourgeois. I think as you put it, the "rounder tone" is more pleasing to my ear, and more applicable to more styles besides flat picking bluegrass.

Both world class guitars. I have a D2H from 2006 and just about ready to take a deep breath and buy my first Bourgeois.

The Collings D-1AT for my tastes. Bright, articulate, volume, sustain, punchy.
If I want warmth, roundness and bass I reach for a rosewood guitar, not a brand where even their mahogany boxes sound like rosewood and their rosewoods sound like low volume mud.

I will take both, thank you. Collings a little better sounding, at least to my ears. Great demo!

Both are amazing guitar and same quality, but if you are looking for an old Martin sound: maybe the Bourgeois is more appropriate

Are these the same strings on each? ( and string age?). Which strings, they sound bright. (Esp on the col. )
I like the warmer Bourgeois

excellent video, thank you. How much does this Bourgeois guitar cost?

Can’t say one is better than the other. I’d go with this bourgeois over this Collings for probably being cheaper. Lol

I like the Collings for its note separation and articulation. However totally I prefer the deeper tone of the Bourgeois. Perhaps my bias comes from playing Martin’s and Boucher’s?
Even so, in this particular instance I believe the Collings is a superior guitar.

I think the Bourgeois is warmer sounding.

bourgeois is more traditional and akin to martin...collings more modern sound to me, cuts through that bit more. definitely a preference thing. if i had one only i would hanker for the other

They’re both out of my price range so I bought a maton guitar a couple days ago. Lol

Bourgeois for me as long as it doesn’t have the small nut width
