The Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against the new abortion law in Texas that would ban the majority of abortions in the state, and allows private individuals to sue anyone who helps terminate a pregnancy.

Attorney General Merrick Garland called the ban "clearly unconstitutional" and a "legislative scheme."

Texas Governor Greg Abbott made misleading statements as he said that victims of rape of incest will not be forced to give birth under the new law. However, in fact, it bans all abortions after approximately six weeks, usually before a woman knows she is pregnant.

Dr. Jamila K. Taylor, director of healthcare reform and a senior fellow at The Century Foundation, joins Marc Lamont Hill on “Black News Tonight” to discuss this issue.

All this and more on “Black News Tonight.”
