An interesting fact: there were so many Azerbaijanis in Armenia in the late XIX - early XX centuries because in 1604-1605 the Persian Shah of Azerbaijani origin Abbas I forcibly evicted most of the Armenians of Eastern Armenia (today's Republic of Armenia) deep into Persia, and settled Azerbaijani and Kurdish nomads on the deserted lands. And today, Azerbaijanis complain that Armenians were returned to their native lands after they came under Russian control and falsely declare that there were no Armenians on these lands before and they were newcomers (despite the fact that even after the eviction by Shah Abbas I, there was still a significant Armenian population in the region, although it was no longer a majority how it used to be and how, fortunately, it was preserved in Nagorno-Karabakh until very recently, when Azerbaijan forcibly expelled all Armenians from there).

Ok so for anyone who’s confused, during 1880 countries Georgia Armenia and Azerbaijan weren’t independent and were parts of Russian Empire, and it was pretty common back then for ethnicities to be distributed like that.

There are still Kurds in South Igdir and Kagizman, they are not shown in 2020. They are 1/3 of Kars population and 1/2 of Igdir population.
