We lost some video files during the filming of the JTL X99s & DDR4 Build, so I had to remove the thermal paste and re-apply it onto the CPU.
Perfect opportunity for a how-to video!

Hope you found this video informative, helpful, and fun!

I'm currently in the middle of building a PC, and I have no experience with thermal compound, the only step that frightens me due to the chances of goofing up and ruin the components. Your video is very helpful! I hope I'll be up to the task!

Thank you very much for this video! To many new builders (like myself) this is something new and although almost every tech channel suggests the same thing, you are the first person that I have seen that actually shows the process in real time and actually shows how long it could take to clean off all the thermal paste. Also, using a coffee filter is an interesting idea that I was not aware of.

Excellent video and I really appreciate the hands on approach that you take.

I am guessing the fast-mo is an hours worth of rubbing but I don't know. I am glad to see a coherent and articulate vid on removing the stuff, I see a lot of application vids but not too many removal cleaning which is equally important. it is important to clean both the underside of the heatsink and the cpu itself. what a day to get a CPU overtemp error in BIOS, the day "No Man's Sky" came out.

As always, great information for new builders either upgrading the CPU cooler or a new build. Keep those videos coming ;)

I just ordered some arctic 5 thermal paste yesterday. This video is going to come in handy. I have a feeling my CPU is going to look like a complete mess though.

Ronsonol lighter fuel is commonly used by professional technicians for this sort of electronics work. It will clean off old goop much faster than alcohol. It took you so long to clean those surfaces because you were using mostly physical action to effect the cleaning. The naphtha based product is a very clean and mild solvent.

I liked your explanation, short, thorough and to the point. Not drug out 15-20 min to do a easy job. Any one can do this even a first time female.

Applying thermal paste should be done "X" shaped with a small dot north, south, east, west of the CPU. This will prevent less air bubbles.

Your tutorials are excellent.  I'll be sure to refer to this when I need to change my thermal paste.

Great video - instructions were spot on and made it extremely easy to replace the stock paste on my Ryzen 5 2600.

Coffee filter, good idea! Too bad I have none, because my coffee maker uses those little cups for single cups.
