First do an Endoscopy and Colonoscopy to make sure everything is ok. Some people with a small hiatal hernia have no symptoms. If you have the symptoms, try to fix it with a diet (acid reflux diet and small portions) and breathing exercises. (no yoga) Wear some loose clothes. Lose weight if you are overweight. Don't lie on your stomach. No alcohol and no smoking! Try all these first and see if it helps!!! Many people can manage it with a diet.

What’s happening when I eat food and drink but it seems to be blocked in the esophagus. I can tell when this is happening because it gets difficult to swallow, or the reflex to swallow diminishes. I get severe pain and discomfort, not acid reflux. I have to concentrate on relaxing muscles and in time, the esophagus empty’s into the stomach. This is often accompanied with a severe pain like a knife in the stomach. Sometimes, this is accompanied with regurgitation to empty the esophagus, my stomach does not empty out. I do have acid reflux, but usually not when this event happens.

Be careful if you get this. Losing weight will decrease this drastically. The surgery is risky AF. I fear that pushing the stomach out of the diaphragm and back into place will somehow rupture it. It depends on how weak the stomach walls are and how fragile they are.
