A lot of people questioning how it can be sustainable when I said the kelp numbers are declining in California. My fault for not clarifying. Bullwhip kelp is in abundance and grow much faster in places like Alaska. They also have good kelp farms so as long as you're ordering from companies like Barnaclefoods(from Alaska and very conscious about sustainability) it would definitely be sustainable! Or taking what's already been washed up, as I did, would be an alternative. Sorry for the confusion. Thank you always for watching!

You can also deep fry the kelp leaves. When I was a young boy in Korea, my grandma used to cut the kelp leaves into square pieces and deep fry them and then season them with some sugar. What you end up with is salty & sweet kelp chips. They were pretty tasty.

Kelp pickles sound like something they eat on Spongebob

I almost cried when he left that beautiful head of kelp-like greens behind. he had 5 lbs he could've taken and then dried. It is GREAT for your garden, too.

I used to do this back in the day with my grandma. She made some awesome Korean dishes with the seaweed. Seaweed/kelp is plentiful but not many people know about the benefits of it. Awesome video!

If you use a mason jar and you poor the hot brine into the jar it will seal itself as it cools down for. Long term storage

My dad and I used to use bull kelp stems to steam fish fillets, just stuff them full of it, some water, maybe some seasonings, throw the whole thing in the fire then take it out and split it open. Dinner is served 👌

Quickly becoming one of my favorite YouTube channels to watch. I learn something new every time when I watch your videos! Very educational along with teaching sustainability. You make every catch and cook look delicious with unique dishes...which separates you amongst other channels. I’m from the Midwest and so wish I could experience some of this stuff in my backyard. But this will do for now lol.

That’s awesome. It reminds me of 20, 000 leagues under the sea. Captain Nemo said anything you can find on land, you can find in the ocean. Leave it to the sea to make pickles look cooler too.
