That’s great advice to the young watch enthusiast. Never go into debt for a hobby...work & save & you will appreciate it more when you own it free & clear!

Hamilton was my “gateway drug”. They have a very varied collection with a generally affordable price point.

Bracelet or strap replacement is an affordable way of giving your current collection a new look.

17:37, that right there, nail on the head. I got into watches much later in life, so I purchase the ones I would wear the rest of my days (25 years left, maybe?), so I do factor in passing on my collection to an eventual grandson to a small degree.

I am very new to The world of watch collection. I found about 10 watches cleaning my house during the Lockdown, replacing batteries, straps on a wide variety of watches from a Tag Huer my in-laws gifted me, too a few Fossil my late wife gave me, a Luis Piccard my daughter gave me and 3 Timex watches my parents gave me as a kid that were stocking stuffers. A iron man, Expedition and a plain version and all of them still work. I recently purchased a few Diesel since I have big wrists at almost 8" and then after watching your channel bought two Orient Bambino and a couple of Timex, a Weekender and a Mod 44. I then bought a few Vostok since the first Komandirski was just so cool to wear. I am done buying for now but looking to get my first Grail by Christmas. As a private pilot since 98 I have seen Breitling advertising in my AOPA magazines and love the history. I visited my local dealer who gave me the new brochure which is really a book. I read through it and absolutely adore the Navitimer and its history. Learning to fly by using a similar device to plan my flights and having it on my wrist is a huge appeal since now we plan on computers now. Would you buy brand new or used Navitimer? I enjoyed the buying of cheaper watches, but now it's time to step up and get a real watch. Thank you in advance

Teddy, your videos are fantastic to watch. They’re so fantastic, in fact, that I don’t know what watch to buy myself for my wedding gift!

I have three things I'd like you to cover. Watch winding, watch storage, and hublot.

Also in the storage are auto winding boxes good or bad

Watches were so important in my family. When you were old enough, and showing signs of maturity, you got a watch, and you were on a path of growing and learning responsibility. I have had a watch ever since i got my first one, which was a Timex Marlin, wish i had it now, its long gone sadly.

I made the mistake of wanting a collection when I started. In the course of 1 year I had purchased 75 watches. I Received a '72 Rolex Sub for my 30th birthday in 1992 but my purchases go from a Hamilton Ventura Automatic at the top to a few Casio's at the low end. Bulk of the middle group is Seiko and Citizen. If I were to do it over again I would follow your advice and save up for a small group of finer watches.I will say that I change to a different watch each day so they do not just sit in the watch boxes side by side under glass. Thanks for your sound advice.

It took me four months of learning about different kinds of watches (along with one Tissot Ballade which I returned) until I pulled the trigger on a Christopher Ward diver. I couldn't stand divers at first but after educating myself it's the complete package. I've only got one other watch, one I wore for four years daily that nowadays serves as a watch to wear when things get a tad rough.

Good advice as usual, Teddy. Can you do a video on the pros and cons of different buying options for luxury brands? Online, vs. authorized distributor vs. gray market dealers? Thanks!

I agree, I think learning the most you can before making a purchase is definitely the way to go. Also there are always alternative watches at any price point, so if someone has the means then pulling the trigger on something you like is the way to go. Used vs new depends on the reference. I bought my first watch a Breitling Navitimer new, with a discount. But the reference, the dial and strap/buckle combination is not the used market (I found this out later). So I was surprised and quite happy to learn this, it’s a common piece but a unique reference. If the price is right and you know what you’re getting then go for it.

I like your idea on being careful and thoughtful with each watch purchase. Definitely don't wanna jump the gun and blow tons of cash, only to realize that you hate the watch

The VC overseas was exactly what I had in mind too! The strap options it comes with tick every box you'll ever need for one watch

You gave PERFECT advice on all questions. My first automatic watch was a Hamilton. I regret that I sold it a couple of years ago.
