I give my first impressions on the Chihiros RGB VIVID 2 LED aquarium lights suitable for aquascapes and planted aquariums. Let me know what you think about them and what I should do with my Aquascaper 1200 for the next 3 months before I upgrade to an OASE HighLine 400 discus aquascape.

My wife and I have been running a pair of these over our 240 liter heavily planted aquarium since March 2020. They're bright and quiet and make everything look amazing. We currently run them at red: 90%, green: 54%, and blue: 70% for six hours per day with one hour ramp up and down. We start CO2 injection 90 minutes before lights on (in-line impellor reactor via a solenoid on a timer) and shut it off 60 minutes before lights off. We also run the Chihiros Doctor (electrolysis) reactor against algae; it's programmed via the same app. We change 20% - 30% of the aquarium water twice weekly.

The only issues have been a minor drift in the timer (After a few weeks the lights would turn on a few minutes late. Reloading the saved program from my phone remedied the issue) and the bright glare when viewing the aquarium from a seated position (Adding shades solved the issue. We made our own since the branded ones don't cover the side of the fixture.).

We're super happy with the performance of these lights, especially for the price.

I personally do like this however the Twinstar 1200 made the reds of this scape pop a bit more and felt more natural to the eyes, but perhaps playing around with the app settings might fix that. I also liked the shadows the Twinstar cast.

I am so excited about how wonderful the scape looks!! The lighting just topped it completely off! Of course I'm watching on youtube so I can't even imagine how beautiful it looks in person. I think you should keep the Scape for now.. if I was able to I would absolutely love to try these lights.. I also went to the Amazon link this morning and I will be pre-ordering your book.. maybe one day I'll meet you and you can sign it for me! Best bang for the bucks lightning system atm...got mince since 6 months, loving it so far! Tips; to get the fan totally silent, just remove the 3 screws that hold it to the chassis then enjoy the silence. :)

I have to say George, I really hate to see the Aquascape 1200 go, so beautiful and detailed. i have enjoyed watching this setup from the beginning and how it has evolved. But i know change is important and am excited to see the new setup and bigger tank. As for the RGB lights, love them! They really make the aquascape pop and they don't take away from the viewing. The covers make a big difference, especially preventing any glare. Love the design of the lights as well. Thanks again George for the video as always! Be safe and stay healthy my friend.

Chihiros makes surprisingly good lights. A lot of their lights aren't available here in the US either, but I got my hands on an RGB for a 45cm tank and it was surprisingly powerful! Using a Seneye PAR meter, it was reading an easy 75-90 PAR, depending on the spot on the substrate, about 12 inches down. Very impressive lights for the cost!

I have a Chihiros RGB plus for a 5 gallon and it looks stunning! I set it up with the tank and got unbelievable results of plant growth in 10 days! And the light was only 50 bucks! (Instead of a twinstar (which are nice but not affordable) I live in the US and I was able to buy one on eBay. I highly recommend this company!

Thanks for the review, I just canceled my Twinstar 1200sp order for these. I will be running these lights mounted on two ADA solar RGB mounts over an ADA 120p tank.

I use this lamp as well for my 90p. And I satisfied enough with the result. It's come with very handy apps, easy setting, built-in connection in the very reasonable price. I add 6" fan on top of it for heat reduction and walaaaa... everything just worked well.

Excellent video, I have been considering purchasing one of these lights and this video was very helpful as I do my research. Seems like a really nice unit and they are so reasonably priced, especially for me living in Shanghai I am seeing the RGB Vivid 2 for a little over $300 USD. As for the aquascaper 1200 and what to do with it for the next 3 months, I think you should do a more advanced aquascape. It would be great to see you do an aquascape with some intricate and more detailed hardscape, as well as using some more challenging plants that you don't typically use. I have been following your channel for a few years now and all of your videos for beginners have been really helpful as I have developed into a more advanced aquascaper. I'd love to see you do something a little bit more difficult to achieve though, I think that would be great for some of your more advanced viewers that have grown as aquascapers with your channel.

Haven’t watched all the way through yet. But first impression is the overall effect is stunning; the greens really pop. To my eye, reds aren’t quite as vibrant as with previous lights, though.
