Everything you need to know about FISA (the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) – one of the most controversial laws in the United States. FISA received a temporary extension recently as part of the National Defense Authorization Act. In the coming months Congress will debate reforms to FISA, with many populist members of both parties calling for its permanent repeal. Rep. Crenshaw joined House Intel Chairman Rep. Mike Turner and Rep. Darin LaHood to describe how FISA actually works, discuss the competing reform bills, and debunk common misconceptions about the government’s ability to use FISA to spy on Americans. By the end of this episode, you’ll have a solid grasp of Section 702, Title 1, FISA courts, the Crossfire Hurricane scandal, and, of course, what would happen if an analyst wanted to spy on Paul McCartney.

Congressman Turner is the Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, and member of the Oversight and Accountability Committee. Follow him on X and Instagram at @repmiketurner.

Congressman LaHood is a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, the Ways and Means Committee, and the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party. Follow him on X and Instagram at @RepLaHood.

Dude...

Do you REALLY need to ask? If you do, then you shouldn't be a Senator.

Is this a joke?

I wish you would have Senator Mike Lee on to talk about this.

You're living in a police state. Pretending like it's not a fact doesn't change anything.

The subject discussed would seem to be moot, since anyone (99%) w/ a PC, laptop and/or smart device (they call a fone) is vulnerable to hacking/data theft or spying, either from foreign actors or US govt hackers.

20:20 while what is described is abhorrent, the idea is that these DOMESTIC CRIMES are not are not national security threats. FISA, title 1, and 702 are about national security threats. Dan... what you are talking about is mission creep. That's where sh!t always hits the fan. If you want to do something more about the crimes you are talking about, pass more laws that address the domestic part of these. Don't make FISA a one size fits all basket for law enforcement. National security isn't synonymous with law enforcement. There of course is overlap. But the two are vastly different problems that need vastly different solutions. Judiciary is correct to limit foreign intelligence collection to.... wait for it... foreign intelligence. Not law enforcement.
