Everyone is really excited that New York City's latest mayor is vegan! Or was it just greenwashing to keep people uninterested in his awful policies? Whatever it was, vegans ate it up. So let's talk about the vegan movement's fascination with wanting acceptance from celebrities, and if its hurting more than helping.

Plus, Iceland says they'll phase out commercial whaling, the US House of Representatives moves to ban mink farming and Hawaii ends shark fishing.

Elaborate and funny, thanks for that and happy belated birthday!
You know, I think your videos played a significant part in me finally making the move to reach out to activist groups and I‘m so happy and eager to really join the fight!
Looking forward to the podcast!

Belated happy birthday wishes your crankiness! So pleased to hear about the upcoming podcast project. Sounds amazing! I love the way you advocate in ways and with a perspective I don’t see anywhere else. Many thanks for all your tireless work ♥️

He’s certainly not “vegan” out of compassion, that’s for damn sure.

So angry that we have to fight this tyrant now, on top of everything else. But thank you for telling it like it is.

Wrong. The Cranky Vegan is my favorite vegan celebrity. He is on Netflix! I vote we smother him in hugs and kisses.

I think this is very similar to the pedestaling that happens with "celebrity activists" where because he's plant based vegans have made him beyond reproach and that's really sad.

Should a politician's other policies and platforms matter, as long as they're encouraging a plant based diet?

Can you clarify something from another recent video? It would really help me to know the answer with what I’m working on.

You stated that the more locations a target (Louis Vuitton) has, the better, because that means more opportunities for protests.

Is it not true that the more locations a company has, the easier it is for them to ignore protests at stores, if there are more stores and therefore customers won’t be as confronted by activists, and won’t be so turned away?

And is this more-stores-the-better rule the case with all companies?

I feel like Veganuary is mildly successful because it overlaps with Lent, and a lot of people I know give up eating meat during lent or do the Daniel Diet which is vegan, so people get a two-fer-oner, but none of this, whether it be veganuary or the Daniel diet are actually keeping people "vegan" or vegan.

Kudos to you for calling out animal rights activists' focus on celebrities as some sort of saviors. I've noticed it for years and found it misguided, naïve, and frankly, desperate.

I saw the NYC mayor's press conference this week announcing a bunch of plant-based initiatives. I was very pleasantly surprised to see this, though it was really cringey seeing him squirm when a journalist was trying to make him admit he's vegan and he refused to. He kept repeating he's living a "plant-centred life." Steps in the right direction, at least. I can't imagine the amount of heat he got/will get from the animal product industries after this though.

I'm not from NYC, so I have no idea what other initiatives he's spearheading.

If Mr. Adams were plant-based for health, and advocating for that, great! Kids eat crap these days, and need to eat more fruits, vegetables, and beans! But he ain't that, and he's got an issue with boundaries and basic humaneness, besides, so we don't want him [lookin' at you, Plant Based News]. Lots of good news here, otherwise; thanks for posting!

Oh brother. Eric Adams. Just work with the guy & make New York better. Problematic? Sure. So?! He's a semi authoritarian. He's growing, he's on the path just like I was from 1987 to 2008 as a vegetarian who didnt care about animals. All of you writing comments were automatic converts who's shxt don't stink & never had an opinion that needed evolving. Never had a controversy, no complexity, no blind spot. Nothing. Fully evolved vegan übermenschen. Eric Adams, warts & all, is evidence of another crack in the wall of Speciesism & the rise of vegan power. Let's use our voice to keep the Mayor of NYon point. THIS is the guy we gotta work with! What is wrong with you people??
