IAF's $3.1B purchase of 240 AL-31FP engines is a real head-scratcher! They're spending $25M per unit to replace old AL-31FPs with new ones that have the SAME THRUST and a measly 2000hr service life . Why not upgrade to the AL-41 engine, which has DOUBLE the service life (4000hrs), more efficiency, and higher thrust? It's a no-brainer! The Su-30MKI airframe has a 6000hr lifespan, so the AL-41 would last the entire lifetime of the aircraft.
Instead, they'll buy 240 AL-31FPs for $3.1B and then... repeat the process in a few years.

You are always to the point, short and crisp. That is the right approach. Keep it up.

Great news. Hope this will make IAF and MoD rethink Indias fighter aircraft number strategy and preparedness with this move and more such purchases.

Outright purchase is fine for immediate requirements. Simultaneously, Reopen Kaveri Engine project and provide timely funds. Its going to yield good results in future.

You could also cover specific company profiles essentially major private (including start-ups) and public companies involved in Defense. This will give the channel an investment dimension and benefit those who wish to participate in the country's journey to self-reliance (and later exports). just a suggestion, I do realise that it will be a change to the founding philosophy of the channel. But I also feel its a logical extension.

In a time when India faces the engine crisis. At the same time I understand that India has successfully tested in Russia a 48.5 kn dry thrust engine. At the same time, Godrej is making 5 prototype the same. Why can't India design a more robust twin engine fighters using these engines. Using Twin engine, can fetch sufficient power for a good aircraft. Further using a burner can further enhance the power capabilities. Can you through some light as to why India can't go for twin engine Design. One reason can be understood in terms of fuel efficiency etc including running cost. But till such time India should do sll thst is possible to sustain the adequate delivery of aircrafts.

Sir.. ❤ please make a detailed video on these engines covering following points.
1. Production of engines done where?
Reason : Can this be a opportunity to induct private players in Aero Engine manufacturing.

2. Have we been able to acquire 'know why' for these engines? If not or partially done then what is the possibility to acquire in full with probable timeline.
Reason : that will be instrumental in increasing indigenous content rapidly.

3. If possible then can a variant of these engines be developed with indigenous metallurgy and parts in a decade time? Full system with shared IPR (Brahmos model) or Royalty basis.
Reason : Many countries are operating these engine where there is a market for us.

No other channel provided the clarification like AD did. All others think these 240 engines are for upgraded sukhois.
