In this episode of The Simpsons Theory we look into whether Cletus really is just a slack-jawed yokel. Could Cletus Spuckler actually be a millionaire!?

I like the idea that Cletus is incredibly rich but keeps his lifestyle relatively the same because he's happy with what he has. Just using his money to fund the ocassional proyect.

Also in season 18 ep. 17, Homer refers to Cletus as a "Hillbilly". Cletus corrects him, "That's hill-William to you, sir." Clearly a sign that Cletus is demanding respect for his status.

This theory makes TOTAL SENSE! and what's admirable about Cletus is that he doesn't change his lifestyle to suit is wealth.

This theory makes complete sense! Also, since the money is technically stolen and he runs businesses without reporting taxes, maybe he just lays low and lives below his means to not raise the suspicions of the IRS ?

Cletus reminds me of another famous millionaire Jed Clampett, of course he moved to Beverly Hills when he discovered oil on his property and struck it rich. Cletus should get his own theme song/ballad if he wants achieve equal levels of fame and influence. :)

I will say this though if Cletus is surprisingly smart and rich, it means he was willing to sacrifice himself in the Simpsons movie so everyone else could escape, surprisingly noble.

How strange that only the day after watching this I should discover some evidence that possibly contradicts this. In S15E08, Cletus is on the news showing his house in pieces saying "They destroyed my home! And the equity I built up there in"
Was all the money and deeds destroyed?

Totally LOVE this theory! I hear actual rich people live this way because if everyone thinks you are poor there are no one to try and steal from you.

You make a compelling argument :) However, I'm not sure that Skinner would have had the deeds to the school - presumably that would be owned by the city rather than him personally.

So fan theory here. Cletus, and Mr. Burns are indeed cousins. They both own the largest acreages in the Springfield area. Also the old Simpson farm. Might account for why Burns has never fired Homer, and consistently protects him from poverty. Considering Homer incompetent, and has no education, yet one of the most coveted positions at the power plant. Also Montgomery has a long standing tradition of interaction with the Simpson family.

Cletus has also shown to have a decent amount of intelligence and shows on more than one occasion that he has had a decent education.
