How to Route Audio from your Mac to your DAW (Mac ONLY)
Hey folks, in this episode, we'll look at how to route audio from your computer to your DAW, so you can record reference tracks, meter and analyze music you're streaming, or just to record audio excerpts from YouTube! I'm not here to tell you what to do, just how to do it! Note that this solution is MAC Only. For PC Users of REAPER, watch this:

Blackhole does this and it’s free. Plus it’s not a VST it just turns your computer into an audio source into any DAW you want

Using this to route system audio (music, movies) through Cubase so I can use Waves NX room simulator. AMAZING. Thank you.

VB was exactly what I needed, tried loopback stuff in reaper but none of it worked like I hoped. having all of my monitoring fx active for general use as well as production is a huge win for consistency and trusting what I hear. can't thank you enough, now I can even have reaper handling my pc audio, watching a movie, reference track or whatever while I'm working in ableton.

Thank you! Super helpful for streaming set ups. You might want to include that in A/B test for title to get more views/subs :) Just requires loopback to grab DAW audio and make available for OBS etc.

Thanks again for another lesson, this stuff is very confusing when I was learning it I can remember watching a lot of videos, it is nice to have the expert advice, thank you.
Rearoute has been working very well on my new pc. It could have been my laptop just being weird why it was not working for me before.

You're a legend. In logic pro, when I choose input for the track, the VG-cable inputs are added after the last inputs on my Quantum 2626 which results in 27-28. That was the only confusing part for me to figure out. Hope it helps someone.

I've never had luck with any virtual audio cable software. They always eventually cause my audio to glitch out in a catastrophic way. The loopback feature gets the job done when I need it to. What I'm really suck on is how to get my system audio to record in OBS. There's no way to use the loopback feature so I literally have to run cables from outputs 3 and 4 to inputs 1 and 2, which means I can't use my interface while recording system audio. I want to make some videos where I'm playing my guitar plugged into my interface, recording system audio, and recording a dialogue mic at the same time. I've also been on the hunt for a VST2 parametric EQ that will work as an audio filter in OBS on Mac. I'm using a 2015 iMac running Catalina 10.15.7.

The link you provided for doing this on PC only shows how to get DAW audio into OBS.

Thanks for this, after watching many others, this is the only one that worked for me on the Mac. Tried both options, they sound the same to my ear. Any reason to pick one over the other?

I’ll have to look into this for my totally legal and ethical purposes

I like to use ASIO Link Pro as it makes things much more complicated 😀😀😀

Not sure what I'm doing wrong on mac pro. VB-cable downloaded and on. Agg device created (2 inputs scarlett + 2 inputs vb-cable). DAW is using the agg device. Sound changed to vb-cable. track in garageband - not sure which input to choose - tried with 3+4 (which would be vb-cable?) Also tried with input 3 which should also be vb cable. but no audio recording!

Hi, I do have a question or related. I’ve been searching your videos I’m trying to find how to record midi drums part by part (bass drum first snare hi hat, symbols etc.). I guess like doing takes on a track. I hope this makes sense and would love your help. Thanks, peace

At 1:47, how are you able to have 4 BlackHole devices? For my use case, I'm trying to have YouTube and Discord each be an input on separate tracks in my DAW.

Doesn't work on my macOS Mojave + M-Audio 192/14 interface :/

I cant find any loopback software that doesn't degrade the quality. Blackhole 2ch for me ruins the quality so much.
