Abstract - In the last few years, the appearance of distributed generation became very popular, and it plays a good solution to confront the problem of the distribution network such as the power loss, and the voltage deviation. many optimization methods have been used to find the optimal placement and size of DG units. But, the decreasing of the active power loss, and the reliability of these algorithms are still lower. Furthermore, we noticed some disadvantages of these optimization methods such as the complexity, the precision of the results, and the premature convergence. So, this paper presents a modified PSO algorithm by using the chaotic arctangent acceleration to search the optimal siting and scale of DG units considering the DG unit that injects both the active and reactive power. The objectives of our study are to reduce the active power loss, decrease the voltage deviation, and avoid the drawbacks of the recent studies. To examine the reliability of our proposed algorithm, we select to use the IEEE 69 bus. The outcomes show the performance of our proposed algorithm compared with the standard case and other previous algorithms."
