"The Servant Song" is a beautiful Christian hymn that speaks to helping others bear life's joys, sorrows, and fears just as Christ helps us in life. Written by Richard Gillard and Betty Pulkingham, this song can be heard in many Christian denominations including the Catholic church.

Recorded live by the Sunday 7pm Choir at St. Francis de Sales Parish in Ajax, Ontario Canada. Thanks for listening and God bless! 🙏

Song Title: The Servant Song
Artist(s): Music by Richard Gillard
Publisher: ©1977 Universal Music Group

Lyrics:

Will you let me be your servant,
let me be as Christ to you;
pray that I may have the grace to
let you be my servant, too.

We are pilgrims on a journey,
we are trav'lers on the road;
we are here to help each other
walk the mile and bear the load.

I will hold the Christ-light for you
in the night-time of your fear;
I will hold my hand out to you,
speak the peace you long to hear.

I will weep when you are weeping;
when you laugh I'll laugh with you.
I will share your joy and sorrow
'til we've seen this journey through.

When we sing to God in heaven
we shall find such harmony,
born of all we've known together
of Christ's love and agony.

Thank you for sharing your lovely rendition of this song. Always one of my favorites, hadn't heard it in a long time, then did today at Mass. Brought me to tears, because just this week I had to humble myself in asking for support of dear friends when I had a panic attack. I've always been the one to help and support, but this time I had to find the grace to reach out and let them serve me. So I had to look up this song to share with them.

This hymn has served probably more as my wife and my "song" than the song we selected as the song for our first dance at our reception. 20+ years into our marriage it still rocks me emotionally to my core when I hear it. I find myself frequently fighting (and often losing) breaking into tears, especially as verse 3 starts as it reminds me of the difficult illness my wife struggled through a little over 10 years ago. The longer we've been married the more meaning this hymn has for me and for us. If more couples adopted this philosphy for their marriage the world would be a much better place.

Thank you to all of our Permanent Deacons and their Wives for there service to the Catholic Church there bishop they truly embody what it means to be of service to the Church and I think that’s beautiful to witness deacons at mass knowing if there are married they bring the needs of the community into the church and church to the community

Very nice! I first heard this song nearly 25 years ago when I joined my parish choir....and a group of us used to sing this especially for funerals and weddings. It holds a special place in my heart and it was great hearing you guys sing this one.

I love this song and grew up in a church where Betty Pulkingham, was the choir director. She would cut the accompaniment on the last verse having the choir sing acapella about "Harmony". The effect was staggering. Just offering this if there are choir directors watching this video.

This video, The Servant Song, is a wonderful graphic display of servant-hearted worship to the Lord
accompanied by the SFSD choir with incredible harmony which expresses the beauty of the words
through music. Thank you so much to SFSDSunday Group for allowing us to use it to bless our
worship service. May God continue to be with you in your work for Him. Aldersgate Church, Norfolk VA
