this must be the only channel where people get excited about a desk fan being on a companies roadmap

the "V" cutouts in the circular crown are not symmetric in the original design: one of the sides is normal to the plane of of the fan, and the other is tapered. that was, accoridng to a Noctua representative's interview, in order to "straighten" the rotational energy the fan induce onto the airflow

Would be interesting to have a shroud-showdown for these kind of devices, see who can get the highest airflow at something like 1-1.5m or so.

You called it dude, they finally did it!

I'd always assumed that Noctua put it on the roadmap as a troll, like Mojang used to put "removed Herobrine" on every release note. I didn't realise they'd actually shown pictures of one.

Who else got recommended this after the Noctua home release?

It looks like the original model has guide veins in the air ducts to increase static pressure. It might be worth a try to add those to your model

just for being so cool and open source and sharing things on thingiverse with the rest of the community, you have earned my like and subscription! O7 Salute from a sailor to an airman!

Now I just want a 3d printer even more, I really wanna see what happens when I strap one of my deltas to it

Actually something like this would be a great way to recycle old case fans. Still I now want to see someone mount one of the ultra powerful 5 amp Delta Electronics fans to this thing.

Fan showdown will be interesting on the back of this.

I've coveted this thing ever since I watched your video. Where I live, there aren't many 3D printing opportunities but a customer of mine hooked me up with a place where they print parts for car and motorcycle customization. Went there, got the two parts made and... I came back home with a 3D printer they didn't use anymore, too small for the quantities they print these days. Now I have got that really great desk fan and I can dabble into printing too. Coincidences leading to good things!
And that fan rocks. It blows *just* strong enough for a desktop use. You don't want a too powerful airflow, since when using monitors, one blinks less. Too much wind can then make your eyes sore. This bad boy does the trick perfectly. Thank you again for that great project, I linked it to many of my buddies.

Thanks for taking the time and having the expertise to do this.

Would be really dope to mount a 140mm industrial fan to it and watch it just throw the hell out of some air

I actually made something like this a year ago.
It didn't have the finesse of a 3d print, it was paper, glue and cardboard.. but i used 3 noctua airflow fans and i have it in front of my indoor trainer.
It cools down my face so that i dont get sweat in my eyes.

Ah yes, time to blast air at myself with a Noctua powered TF2 logo

The smoke tests look awesome. As the ducts are designed to increase the velocity of the airflow it would be interesting to know how much the air stream exiting the ducts pulls the surrounding air in and if that explains the design of the four grooves. Maybe doing a smoke test by providing smoke above the fan and placing a cardboard to prevent the smoke from going into it to visualize how the surrounding air is pulled into the exiting stream ?

I bet we gonna see this on AliExpress before Noctua releases this thing.
