The twin concepts of DFM and DFA (design for manufacturing and design for assembly) are explained by Sofeast CEO Renaud Anjoran and industry expert Andrew Amirnovin in this presentation.

We explain:

✔ What the concept of design for manufacturing (DFM) is. Namely, assuring that your product can actually be manufactured to your design expectations by designing it to be more easily manufactured using accessible processes and parts.

✔ Design for assembly (DFA) as a concept. Designing as simple a product as possible with fewer parts and easy operation. This means fewer mistakes, faster assembly, easier maintenance, and lower costs.

✔ Finding an easier way to fabricate custom parts, such as via 3D printing.

✔ Choosing standard 'off the shelf parts' wherever possible.

✔ Planning the production processes and materials ahead of time.

✔ Planning for the desired color and finish.

✔ Engineers should observe the assembly (and packing) in order to refine the process and streamline/simplify it wherever possible.
