WHO Director-General Dr Tedros' address to the opening session of the 146th Session of the WHO Executive Board.

"Glad to welcome Member States, donors and health partners to the WHO Executive Board today. I shared with them our achievements, but also challenges in the previous year to promote health, keep the world safe & serve the vulnerable" said Dr Tedros in a tweet.

The 146th session of the Executive Board takes place at WHO headquarters in Geneva on 3-8 February 2020. At this meeting, members will agree on the agenda and resolutions to be considered at this year’s World Health Assembly.

Topics under discussion this year include WHO’s response in severe, large-scale emergencies; research and development for diseases with epidemic potential; antimicrobial resistance; poliomyelitis; principles for global consensus on the donation and management of blood, blood components and medical products of human origin; and promoting the health of migrants.

WHO is very rational in dealing with this outbreak. China has done a good job too, even though there were some delay initially, due to the late action of the local Wuhan government. But when the central government takes over, every thing was extremely fast. Two hospitals were built within ten days, providing 2600 beds. DNA of the virus was sequenced within two weeks by the Chinese scientist, and the result shared with the world.
